Naturopathic Medicine

At True North Health, our naturopathic doctors focus on addressing the root causes of illness rather than just treating symptoms. We aim to empower patients with knowledge to take an active role in their health and well-being.

The approach integrates traditional healing practices with modern medical science to provide comprehensive and personalized care. Common modalities include herbal medicine, nutrition, lifestyle changes, and physical therapies.

The 6 Guiding Principles of Naturopathic Medicine

  • The Healing Power of Nature: Naturopathic medicine recognizes an inherent self-healing process in people that is ordered and intelligent. Naturopathic physicians act to identify and remove obstacles to healing and recovery, and to facilitate and augment this inherent self-healing process.
  • Identify and Treat the Cause: The naturopathic physician seeks to identify and remove the underlying causes of illness rather than to merely eliminate or suppress symptoms.

  • First Do No Harm: Naturopathic physicians follow three guidelines to avoid harming the patient:

        -  Utilize methods and medicinal substances which minimize the risk of harmful side effects, using the least force necessary to                    diagnose and treat.

        -  Avoid when possible the harmful suppression of symptoms.

        -  Acknowledge, respect, and work with individuals’ self-healing process.

  • Doctor As Teacher: Naturopathic physicians educate their patients and encourage self-responsibility for health. They also recognize and employ the therapeutic potential of the doctor-patient relationship.
  • Treat the Whole Person: Naturopathic physicians treat each patient by taking into account individual physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, and other factors. Since total health also includes spiritual health, naturopathic physicians encourage individuals to pursue their personal spiritual development.
  • Prevention: Naturopathic physicians emphasize the prevention of disease by assessing risk factors, heredity and susceptibility to disease, and by making appropriate interventions in partnership with their patients to prevent illness.

Conditions Treated

Naturopathic doctors treat a variety of conditions. Some people are establishing care as a preventative approach, others might be tired of not getting answers or the “never ending pill”.

Common areas of focus include: digestive/GI issues, nutrition, food and environmental allergies/sensitivities, and mental health, insomnia, hormonal health, and cardiovascular, and diabetes.

What to Expect?

Naturopathic consultations can be done in person, phone, or virtual. Your first appointment consists of a thorough visit with your doctor. It is very helpful to submit relevant lab work and testing prior to your visit, or bring it along.

Initial recommendations may include lab work, supplementation, lifestyle modifications, and/or support services.

About 2 weeks following your initial consultation, there will be a check in to assess how things are going and answer any questions about the treatment plan. Other services that can support your process may be discussed.

If you had lab work completed following your visit, you will receive the results and changes to your treatment plan 2-4 weeks after completing the lab or testing.

Rechecks will be noted in your treatment plan if recommended, usually in 3-6 months if symptoms are improving. In the meantime, if symptoms worsen or new ones start, it is helpful to schedule a brief consultation to make any necessary changes.

Costs:

     $395

 Return Visits

     $121-$248 (time based)
